What Does Your Dog Say About You?

A new study has claimed that the breed of dog you own can provide an insight into your personality, education and earnings.

Research carried out by Frontline, which involved 2000 dog owners, found that Yorkshire terrier owners are the happiest, claiming they laugh on average ten times a day.

Those who own a Labrador are the most likely to be single, whilst Bulldog owners are “ in a relationship they are looking to get out of”. One in 12 bulldog owners were hoping to break up with their partner at the time of questioning. The majority of happily married household were found to have owned a Pug.

Pug owners were also found to be the richest, with an average salary of £85,000, with Great Dane owners being the lowest paid with a salary of £35,000.

Chihuahua owners devoted the most time to their dog, spending 16 hours a day in their company. However, Dalmatian owners were found to spend the most money on their dogs, reportedly spending £17 a week on toys and treats.

Golden Retriever owners came out as the ‘most intelligent’ with almost a quarter of those who participated in the study holding a Master’s degree or PHD.

Marketing manager for Frontline Spot On, Christine Male, said: "For many of the nation's dog owners, their dog is more than just a pet but a real part of the family too.

"It's interesting to note how our choice of dog can help define what sort of person we are."
